Director Arif Ali’s Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is a love story familiar to Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, Jab We Met, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, and few other similar ones.

Karishma (Deeshka Seth) and Dinoo (Armaan Jain) are collegians. With friends, whom they can enjoy a carefree lifestyle, and families who impose a lot of restrictions, they soon start leading a double life.

Belonging to a South Indian family, Karishma’s parents pressurise her to get married. While Dinoo on the other hand, is compelled to become serious about his studies and career, and follow the lead of his qualified and well established elder brothers.

Both want to live their lives on their own terms and hence decide to flee together.

While on their adventure travel, they swear undying love for one another and quickly get married.

Soon after, they start realising the hard facts of life – that life is not only about partying and that marriage is not a game either.

How do they face the consequences of their mistake? Was their decision right or wrong?

Let's leave this for you to find out.

The movie doesn’t have a big cast. Apart from the two leads, no other character seems worth mentioning. A debut film for both, Seth and Jain have done a reasonable job.

The first long half of the movie is interesting, but after that the story becomes a complete melodrama. However, the continuation of scenes is commendable as it helped with the flow of the film. The story moved quite swiftly scene by scene and for that direction and editing, both should be appreciated.

The film has six music scores, composed by A. R. Rahman. Even though the tracks express various moods in the movie, they are not appealing enough to be remembered.

The final word

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil is purely for entertainment – so don’t expect more from it. The story may be traditional, but it doesn’t let you get bored.
